What is biodiversity? On a simple level, biodiversity refers to every living thing on the planet. Every gene, every species, every habitat and how each of these interact forms the biodiversity of our planet. Fostering good biodiversity is necessary for our environment and integral to us as a species. Reversing damage and preventing further harm to biodiversity is equally important. That’s why Northern Ireland’s newest natural gas operator SGN Natural Gas continues to champion biodiversity causes, particularly in our network area where we live and work.
The world is at a critical stage in the fight against climate change, and it is everyone’s responsibility to do what they can to make a difference. At SGN Natural Gas, we are delighted to have already made fantastic progress with our biodiversity plans in the network area, which include the planting of 7,000 trees, the creation of innovative bug motels for primary schools, and establishing community beekeeping in eight key towns. You can find out more about these initiatives below as we move towards a net-zero carbon environment by 2050.
