Primary School pupils in Enniskillen have been learning the importance of gas safety during an educational roadshow hosted by SGN Natural Gas which is currently developing state-of-the-art infrastructure to bring natural gas to the town.

The latest series of information roadshows held across the SGN Natural Gas network area included visits to Holy Trinity P.S; Enniskillen Model P.S; and Jones Memorial P.S.

Dominic Scullion, SHE Manager (Safety, Health, Environment) with SGN Natural Gas, explained to the young people where natural gas comes from, how it is delivered to homes, what to do if you smell gas, and about always staying safe near roadworks and construction sites.

He also spoke about gas safety in the home, including the necessity for carbon monoxide (CO) alarms to be fitted in rooms with household appliances using gas, oil, wood or coal.

Mr. Scullion said he was delighted with the enthusiasm of the children and staff in attendance at all three presentations which took place in Enniskillen last week.

Mrs. Roberta Bailey, Vice Principal of Jones Memorial P.S, said: β€œWe were delighted to welcome representatives from SGN Natural Gas and are very pleased that the pupils were able to hear about the improvements going on in Fermanagh.”

Mr. Andrew Rainey, P7 teacher at Enniskillen Model P.S. added: β€œIt was very informative for pupils to hear about the work taking place in their local community and probably most prevalent, important facts about gas safety in the home and how to help keep everyone safe.”

Darren Young, Head of Business Development with SGN Natural Gas, thanked the schools for participating in the roadshow as part of ongoing community engagement during the project to extend the network to eight key towns in the western area including Enniskillen, Derrylin, Coalisland, Cookstown, Dungannon, Magherafelt, Omagh and Strabane.
