Christmas cheer as roadworks suspended until the new year

SGN Natural Gas today announced an early Christmas present for motorists across the network area in the west β a suspension of roadworks in town centres until the new year.
A temporary suspension of roadworks to facilitate the busy Christmas trading period came into operation on Monday 26th November and will remain in place until Monday 7th January 2019.
The arrangement applies to all eight town centres in Strabane, Omagh, Cookstown, Dungannon, Coalisland, Enniskillen, Derrylin and Magherafelt.
David Butler, Head of Engineering with SGN Natural Gas, said the initiative was aimed at easing traffic flow during what is traditionally the busiest time of year for local businesses.
He added: βThis decision to put roadworks in town centre areas on hold during the festive season was made at the outset of the project to construct the SGN Natural Gas network in consultation with our key stakeholders. We hope that traders and shoppers alike will greatly benefit from the stoppage during the run-up to Christmas and over the New Year.β
SGN Natural Gas is scheduled to supply gas mains, meters and services to around 40,000 customers over the next 40 years in eight key towns across Counties Tyrone, Fermanagh and Derry.
The intermediate-pressure (IP) pipeline which brings natural gas to town gateways is almost near completion and this will be followed by ongoing distribution work leading into individual streets, enabling homes and businesses to connect to the new energy infrastructure in due course.
